The Cleveland Indians have been hanging around in the American League Central all season. But after getting swept by the Twins this weekend, the Indians
- are six games out of first place;
- are 5½ games out in the Wild Card standings; and
- sport the third-worst run differential in the entire American League.
For those reasons and more, this team is a true long shot for a postseason berth. Which is why they need to start thinking about 2013 and beyond. To that end:
The Pirates and Rangers have checked in on Shin-Soo Choo, the Indians' star right fielder.
For now, those appear to be the most interested teams, in fact.

Choo's having a big year, but he's 30 years old, he's arbitration-eligible, and he'll be eligible for free agency after next season. Which is to say that he'll probably never be more valuable to the Cleveland Indians than he is right now. So you can understand why they should at least consider trading him for a younger player or players.
