Andrew Cashner had to come out of a start Tuesday night with an injury that appears to be to his elbow.

Andrew Cashner was a good thing the Padres had going for them. The trade return for Anthony Rizzo, the Padres recognized Cashner's triple-digit heat and sent him to the minors to stretch out as a starter. Cashner had success starting in the minors, he had a good first start after re-joining San Diego, and Tuesday night he was on his way to having another good start. But because Andrew Cashner was a good thing for the Padres, something had to happen to him, and something happened to him.

While warming up before the third inning, Cashner experienced discomfort. After throwing one pitch to the backstop, he signaled for attention:

During a mound conference, Cashner appeared to signal to his elbow, and he was removed from action. He slammed his glove down in the dugout out of frustration.

There's no official word yet on what's the matter with Cashner, or how bad it is, but it's easy to speculate and the speculation isn't encouraging. Cashner missed just about all of the 2011 season with a shoulder injury, and injury risk was one of the reasons why some people were skeptical about Cashner in a rotation.
