When San Diego Padres staring pitcher Andrew Cashner was warming up before the third inning of his start on Tuesday, he felt something after a throw that went to the backstop. He immediately motioned for the trainers, and you could see where it was going to go. Elbow tenderness, followed by a diagnosis of a sprain, followed by a diagnosis of a complete tear, followed by ... well, you get the idea.
That's not the case! Turns out the news isn't that bad:
News on Cashner possibly as good as possible. Strained latissimus dorsi muscle. Same injury suffered by Huston Street. Not shoulder or elbow

It's not good, mind you. But a strained lat usually means three weeks or so. Cashner is likely to go on the DL, where he'll join Cory Luebke, Anthony Bass, Tim Stauffer, Dustin Moseley, and Joe Wieland, along with top prospects Casey Kelly, Robbie Erlin, and Joseph Ross. It has not been a good year for the San Diego Padres.
