Ryan Dempster was supposed to be traded to the Atlanta Braves a week ago. He exercised his 10-and-5 rights because he preferred to be traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Now, the Dodgers are reportedly out of the running:
As jayson stark reporting: Dodgers out on dempster. Yankees talking.
— Buster Olney (@Buster_ESPN) July 31, 2012
And, according to that tweet -- which has, as noted, been sent out by Jayson Stark as well as others, the Yankees are in the running, and according to previous reports, Dempster has now said he'll approve a trade to New York. Yankees pitching coach Larry Rothschild was a longtime Cubs pitching coach, so Dempster is familiar with him, and former Cubs GM Jim Hendry is now a special assistant to Yankees GM Brian Cashman.
Stay tuned, the deadline is moments away and we'll surely know something one way or the other, soon.
