Rangers catcher Mike Napoli was placed on the disabled list Saturday with a quad strain.

Texas Rangers catcher MIke Napoli has been dealing with a quad injury for a while, but now it will now force him to miss significant time as the Rangers placed Napoli on the 15-day disabled list Saturday.

The left quad strain caused Napoli to miss two games against the Boston Red Sox earlier this week. After playing through the injury, the Rangers finally decided to rest Napoli in hopes of letting the injury heal.

"It's been there a long time," Rangers manager Ron Washington said, according to ESPN Dallas. "It just never healed up."

Napoli is hitting .223 this season with 17 home runs and 40 RBI. He's started 61 games at catcher and will now be replaced in the lineup by Geovany Soto, who the Rangers acquired from the Chicago Cubs at the trade deadline. Napoli will be eligible to come off the disabled list on August 26.
