Royals pitcher Jeremy Guthrie lost his no-hit bid in the seventh inning on an infield single from Paul Konerko

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie lost his no-hit bid against the Chicago White Sox with two outs in the seventh inning on Sunday afternoon. Paul Konerko hit an infield single after the 33-year-old lasted 6.2 innings without allowing a hit of any kind.

Guthrie has been lights out for Kansas City so far, allowing just one hit and one walk over the first seven innings of Sunday's outing. He had a perfect game going into the fifth inning, but Chicago catcher A.J. Pierzynski forced a free pass with two outs to end that bid.

Making his sixth start with the Royals since a mid-July trade from the Colorado Rockies, Guthrie has once again thrived on the mound for Kansas City. Including the seven innings he's already pitched on Sunday, the right-hander hasn't allowed a run in his past 24.1 innings.
