It hasn't been a good year for Michael Pineda, and it just got worse.
This hasn't been a great year for Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda. He was injured during spring training, hasn't pitched in the major leagues all year, and had shoulder surgery. He's out for the year.
That's given him too much free time, apparently. He was arrested early Monday in Florida for DUI. Dan Mangan of the New York Post reports:
Injured Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda was busted for DUI in Tampa, Fla., on a busy road early this morning after a cop spotted his speeding, "weaving" Nissan SUV driving without its headlights on, cops said.
The burly Pineda, 23, "had a fixed gaze and his eyes were bloodshot, watery and glassy," a Tampa police officer wrote after pulling the 23-year-old hurler over at 2:35 a.m. on North Dale Mabry Highway.
Yankees GM Brian Cashman was quoted in the Post article as having "no comment", though you can likely imagine the team's not too happy with this incident.
