Albert Pujols left Wednesday night's game between the Los Angeles Angels and Boston Red Sox in the fourth inning with an apparent leg injury.

Albert Pujols left Wednesday night's game between the Los Angeles Angels and Boston Red Sox in the fourth inning with right calf tightness.

Pujols doubled to lead off the fourth inning off of Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz. Pujols then advanced to third base on a ground out by Kendrys Morales, but pulled up lame before reaching base.

Pujols scored easily from third on a Mark Trumbo single, but was noticeably limping back to the dugout. Team trainers went over to talk to Pujols after he scored, and ultimately decided to lift him in the bottom half of the fourth inning.

Trumbo moved from left field to first base, while Vernon Wells replaced Pujols in the lineup, playing left field.

The severity of Pujols' injury is currently unknown. With the Angels slumping, they can ill afford a serious injury to Pujols.
