The former Diamondbacks first baseman and broadcaster is facing possible prison time.

Mark Grace Could Face Aggravated DUI Charge

Former Diamondbacks first baseman Mark Grace, a broadcaster for the team since 2004, was arrested in August in Scottsdale, Arizona, for driving under the influence. Grace also had been arrested in May, 2011, on the same charge.

The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that police in Maricopa County, Arizona, is asking for the charge to be upgraded:

Officer David Pubins said a submittal for an upgraded charge for the DUI arrest—Grace’s second in Scottsdale in less than 15 months—was filed to the county attorney’s office.

Grace, who is an Arizona Diamondbacks TV analyst, was driving on a suspended license from the previous DUI and without a required interlock ignition device, both cause for upgraded charges.

This doesn’t sound good for Grace, who has been on a leave of absence from his TV job since the arrest; the county State’s Attorney’s office will decide whether the charge will be upgraded. What’s even worse is this:

An aggravated DUI conviction in Arizona is a felony punishable by mandatory prison time.

That’s bad news for Grace, and presumably, the Diamondbacks are looking for a replacement in the TV booth.

Mark Grace Arrested For Second DUI, Takes Leave Of Absence From D'Backs

Earlier in the season, the Diamondbacks suspended Daron Sutton for wearing suits. Or something. So they were already an announcer down in the booth, and news broke on Friday that Mark Grace was going to take an indefinite leave of absence to "seek personal assistance." From the Arizona Republic, the mystery has been cleared up:

According to Scottsdale Police, Grace was pulled over at about 9 p.m. for having expired registration on his license plates. Grace was also arrested for DUI in Scottsdale on May 30, 2011.

This is Grace's second DUI arrest since joining the Diamondbacks' broadcast team -- he was also arrested in May, 2011.

Grace's former Diamondbacks teammate, All-Star Luis Gonzalez, will take over commentary duties on Friday and Saturday, and 86-year-old, Ford Frick award-winning, announcer Joe Garagiola will be on the broadcast for Sunday's game against the San Diego Padres.

Grace has been in the Diamondbacks' booth since 2004.
