The Arizona Diamondbacks have traded LHP Joe Saunders to the Baltimore Orioles.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have traded left-handed pitcher Joe Saunders to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for right-hander Matt Lindstrom, cash considerations and a player to be named later, the Diamondbacks announced Sunday.
Saunders cleared waivers on Friday when the Orioles first showed interest in picking him up. But instead of posting a waiver claim, the O's took the trade route, finalizing the deal Sunday to send Saunders from one Wild Card contender to another.
The 31-year old Saunders has a 6-10 record with a 4.22 ERA in 21 starts for Arizona this year, posting a 6.2 K/9 ratio along with 146 hits allowed in 130 innings pitched. He is owed around $1.5 million for the remainder of the 2012 season.
