St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina was hit hard in a home-plate collision with the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Josh Harrison Tuesday night. Molina’s a tough guy, but had to leave the game.
Fortunately, Molina doesn’t appear to be seriously injured, and doesn’t blame Harrison for the hit. Jennifer Langosch:
“Clean play,” Molina said. “Clean play. That’s part of baseball. He did what he had to do and I did what I had to do. It sucks because you don’t want anybody to get hurt. This time it was me to get hurt. But it was a clean play.”
Molina will not participate in baseball activities on Wednesday, but he did report improvement less than 24 hours after taking the hit. The headaches are gone, he said, and the shoulder pain is negligible. His neck, though, remains stiff.
Molina also had some concussion tests and came out with a clean bill of health from those. The Cardinals will complete their series with the Pirates Wednesday night, and then head to Washington for an important four-game set with the Nationals. You have to figure Molina will be ready for those games.
