Marlins second baseman Emilio Bonifacio has sprained his thumb and has been placed on the DL.It's just another bit of bad news for Miami this season.

The Miami Marlins just keep taking their lumps. After divesting themselves of Gaby Sanchez and Hanley Ramirez and waiting for Giancarlo Stanton to return from the disabled list, they now lose another piece of their all-too-fragile puzzle that has been broken to bits over the course of what was supposed to be a breakout season.

Marlins second baseman Emilio Bonifacio has been placed on the DL for the second time this season with a left thumb sprain, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. Bonifacio injured his thumb diving for a ball in the ninth inning of Friday night's road game against the Washington Nationals.

Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen noted that this would not be an easy injury for the team to take.

"I think this kid is the glue of the team," Guillen said following Miami's 5-2 win over the Nationals on Friday. "You can see a lot of long faces out there."

Infielder Nick Green has been called up to fill Bonifacio's spot on the roster.
