The Minnesota Twins have traded third baseman Danny Valencia to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for a minor league player.
The Minnesota Twins have acquired outfield Jeremias Pineda from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for third baseman Danny Valencia, according to a report by Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.
With the move, Valencia will be immediately sent down to the minor leagues for the Red Sox. On the season thus far with the Twins, the 27-year-old Valencia was hitting just .198 with two home runs and 17 RBI in 126 at-bats. Valencia finished third in rookie of the year voting in 2010, a year in which he hit .311 on the season.
The last time Valencia was in the lineup for the Twins on Friday evening, going hitless at the plate in four at bats.
