Matt Garza Hits DL With Triceps Injury

The Chicago Cubs were hoping to extract a bounty of prospects from a contending team in exchange for Matt Garza, their young ace. Before the deadline, however, Garza had a buildup of fluid in his right triceps muscle. The initial prescription was rest. The current prescription is more rest, and Garza is going on the disabled list.

From ESPN Chicago:

"Nothing major, but he's not going to be able to go Tuesday," Sveum said. "He threw two sides, and he was just kind of stiff (Sunday) so we're just going to back him off and send him home to see the doctor and just be a little more precautionary."

In Garza's place, the Cubs will recall Brooks Raley, the team's sixth-round pick in 2009. Raley will make his first major-league start on Tuesday after the 24-year-old left-hander threw 82 innings in Triple-A, with a 3.62 ERA, 69 strikeouts, and 28 walks.
