The Baltimore Orioles are calling up top prospect Manny Machado.
The future is apparently now in Baltimore, as the Orioles are calling up No. 1 positional prospect Manny Machado, according to a report from John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal; Machado will join the big club in time for tomorrow's game against the Royals.
Before this season, Baseball America ranked Machado -- the No. 3 overall pick in the 2010 amateur draft -- as the No. 11 prospect in all of baseball, then bumped him up to the No. 9 overall prospect in their midseason rankings.
The 20-year-old will come up from Double-A. In 109 games with the Bowie Baysox, Machado hit .266 with 11 home runs and 59 RBI. He's been hot lately, batting .444 over his last 10 games. Although he has mostly played shortstop in the minor leagues, he is expected to play third base for the Orioles, taking over from Wilson Betemit.
