The Detroit Tigers won their fourth game in a row, beating the Cleveland Indians 5-3. The Tigers remain one game behind the White Sox in the A.L. Central.
The Tigers struck early with two runs in the first off of Justin Masterson, aided by a Lonnie Chisenhall error. Alex Avila went 3-4 with two RBI and Miguel Cabrera connected for his 37th home run in the seventh inning.
The Indians were without a hit against Anibal Sanchez until Carlos Santana tripled with two outs in the 7th. After a Russ Canzler double and a Chisenhall single, which cut the lead to 5-2, Phil Coke came in and ended the threat.
Jose Valverde threw a perfect ninth inning to close out the game and pick up his 31st save.
