Nationals' Danny Espinosa Might Return Wednesday

The Washington Nationals received good news regarding second baseman Danny Espinosa on Tuesday as heavy rainfall postponed their matchup against the Dodgers. An MRI taken Monday afternoon revealed that Espinosa has a deep bone bruise in his left shoulder capsule and not the torn labrum or rotator cuff that he and the club feared, per CSN Washington:

"This is the best news that we could have gotten," [Espinosa] said. "If this was a rotator cuff tear or a labrum tear, it would have lingered the rest of the season. I would have had to have surgery in the offseason.

"This is the best. I didn't think there was going to be a bruise in there, but this was definitely the best news we could have gotten."

Espinosa, who has been sidelined since Sunday, received a cortisone shot in the sore left shoulder to help the recovery process. The diagnosis of a bone bruise means that Espinosa is listed as day to day and might return for one of the Nats' two games against the Dodgers Wednesday evening.
