When a group of investors purchased the Los Angeles Dodgers last spring, we knew that a) the purchase price was roughly $2.15 billion, and b) one of the investors was Magic Johnson.
What we didn't know was how much money Johnson actually invested. Now we know. At least if you believe Magic:
Johnson answered that question in a segment that will appear on HBO's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" Tuesday night at 10 p.m. PDT.
"I wrote a $50-million check," Johnson tells interviewer Joe Frankel. "The largest check in my life."

Did Magic ever have second thoughts? "Only when I had to tell my wife. I said, 'Honey, sit down....'
How much is $2.15 billion? Incredibly, a dollar-for-dollar investment would mean that for his $50 million, Magic Johnson purchased only 2.3 percent of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Of course, it's possible that he got more, with his goodwill and his services counting for more than just his check.
