With the win, the Angels gained a game on the Oakland Athletics who lost to the New York Yankees on Friday. Chicago's lead in the AL Central dropped to one-and-a-half games over the Detroit Tigers. Detroit's game was postponed on Friday.
Ervin Santana turned in one of his best performances of the season, picking up the win after allowing one run over seven innings. Santana allowed just two hits while striking out a season-high 11 batters. Jake Peavy was not as sharp for the White Sox. He took the loss after he allowed five runs on eight hits over five innings.
The White Sox took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Los Angeles scored in the second, third and fourth innings to take a 5-1 lead. The top of the Angels order did most of the damage with the first four hitters driving in all six runs. Mike Trout and Kendrys Morales both hit home runs while Torii Hunter and Albert Pujols each finished with two RBI.
The teams will play the second game of their three-game series Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 9:05 p.m. ET.
