The Minnesota Twins swept their doubleheader today against the Detroit Tigers.
The Minnesota Twins earned a doubleheader sweep over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday in Detroit, winning 2-1 in 10 innings in the nightcap. They beat the Tigers by a score of 10-4 in the afternoon game.
The night game saw Twins starter P.J. Walters throw a very effective six innings, giving up only five hits and a run while striking out four. Brian Duensing, Jared Burton and Glen Perkins combined to one-hit the Tigers over the final four innings.
The Tigers scratched out their lone run of the game in the first inning, as Austin Jackson led off with a single and was driven home by Miguel Cabrera's double. It was RBI number 133 for Cabrera this season.
The Twins manufactured a run in the top of the fifth to tie the game. Neither team would score again until the tenth when Jamey Carroll drove home Denard Span for the winning run.
Fortunately for the Tigers, the AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox lost today to the Los Angeles Angels, so the Tigers only dropped to one game behind them for the division lead.
