Adrian Beltre knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth as the Rangers expanded their lead in the A.L. West to five games.
Adrian Beltre hit a 2-run home run in the seventh to tie the game and singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth as the Texas Rangers defeated the Oakland Athletics Monday night. The Rangers now have a five-game lead on the A's in the American League West.
The A's jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a Josh Donaldson home run in the second inning off Rangers starter Derek Holland. Texas would get a run back in the bottom of the inning on a Mitch Moreland single, but Yoenis Cespedes took the run back with a solo homer in the third.
Josh Hamilton hit his MLB-leading 43rd home run in the fifth to make it 3-2, but the A's answered in the sixth with Chad Pennington's RBI single.
Beltre's 35th homer tied the game at four, where it remained until the bottom of the ninth. With Tyson Ross on the mound, Mitch Moreland hit a lead-off single. Ian Kinsler followed with a single of his own. After an Elvis Andrus sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk to Hamilton, Beltre delivered the game-winner.
Joe Nathan pitched a scoreless top of the ninth to earn the win.
