The Cincinnati Reds beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2, making their run at the second Wild Card that much tougher.
The Milwaukee Brewers came into Tuesday's game with the Cincinnati Reds needing a lot of breaks to go their way in this final week of the regular season to have any hope of catching the St. Louis Cardinals for the second Wild Card. Johnny Cueto and the Reds effectively dashed those hopes, beating the Brewers 4-2.
Cueto bolstered his Cy Young Award credentials by winning his 19th game of the season, tossing seven innings and giving up only two runs on five hits. He also struck out five. Jay Bruce and Dioner Navarro had two hits apiece.
The Reds got on the board in the second inning with four straight singles. Navarro's came with the bases loaded and drove in two runs. The Brewers answered with one of their own in the fifth, but the Reds tacked on two more in the bottom half to make it 4-1. A solo home run from Aramis Ramirez was the only hit the Brewers would get the rest of the way.
With the loss, the Brewers are now four games behind the Cardinals for the second Wild Card with eight games remaining.
