Homer Bailey no-hitter still going through 8 innings

Stay connected for news and updates

Homer Bailey is three outs away from tossing his first no-hitter and the first no-hitter for the Cincinnati Reds since Tom Browning's perfect game on Sept 18, 1988. He goes into the ninth inning having thrown 99 pitches.

Travis Snyder led off the eighth by swinging at the first pitch. He lined a good ball into deep left field, but Todd Frazier was able to track it. Pedro Alvarez was next, quickly falling into an 0-2 hole. After taking the third pitch for a ball, Alvarez lined one right at Scott Rolen, who was pulled all the way over to the shortstop position in the defensive shift. Pinch-hitter Jeff Clement stepped into the box for shortstop Clint Barmes and was able to work the count to 2-2 before Bailey got him to chase a fastball on the outside corner for strike three. It was strikeout number nine for Bailey.
