Michael Morse hit a grand slam in the first inning for the Washington Nationals on Saturday night, but it was hardly straightforward.

The Washington Nationals went ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals 4-0 in the first inning of their Saturday game following an official review and some theatrics from Michael Morse. Washington's left fielder hit a grand slam over the left field fence, but the ball hit an advertising board and ricocheted back into the outfield. The umpires, thinking the ball had come off the wall, signaled that the ball had stayed in play.

That caused a whole lot of confusion, which eventually resulted in Morse being tagged out thanks to a base running error -- or what would have been a base running error if he hadn't hit a home run. The umpires reviewed the tape and determined that Morse hit a home run, which is hardly extraordinary in and of itself. What made this particular play amazing is both what the umpire made Morse do after the call was correct and the ad-lib theatrics that Morse decided to add on his own.

While the play itself is great, the video just gets progressively better as it rolls on. The run backwards around the bases to the batter's box is hilarious, but the real highlight of the incident was Morse's decision to re-enact the home run sequence in its entirety, without a bat.
