The Orioles moved into a tie for first place in the A.L. East with a 4-3 win over the Red Sox.

The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Boston Red Sox, 4-3, on Saturday to move into a tie with the New York Yankees for first place in the American League East. The Yankees lost to the Toronto Blue Jays earlier in the day.

With the score tied at three, Manny Machado homered off of Boston starter Felix Doubront and the Orioles bullpen shut down the Red Sox to give the Orioles a piece of first place. Tommy Hunter (7-8) picked up the win in relief and Jim Johnson saved his 49th game.

Machado started the scoring with an RBI single in the second inning. Chris Davis' two-run homer in the fourth, his 30th of the season, made it 3-0 Baltimore.

In the fifth, the Red Sox got on the board. With a runner on, Jarrod Saltalamacchia connected for his 25th homer of the season to make it 3-2, coming off of Baltimore starter Steve Johnson. Cody Ross tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, but that was it for the Red Sox offense, as the bullpen slammed the door on the comeback bid.
