Dodgers keep postseason hopes alive by dominating Rockies

Gary A. Vasquez-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Los Angeles stays in the Wild Card race by blasting Colorado, 7-1.

Matt Kemp's two-run home run provided Dodgers starter Josh Beckett all of the cushion he'd need, as Los Angeles defeated Colorado, 7-1, Sunday at Dodger Stadium. Kemp's homer was his third in two days, and it keeps the Dodgers within two games of the second NL wild-card spot.

The Dodgers battered Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa for four earned runs in four innings. De La Rosa, pitching in his third start since coming off the 60-day disabled list for Tommy John surgery, recorded three strikeouts and did not walk a batter. Beckett, on the other hand, tossed six innings of one-run ball, though he gave up six hits and issued three walks.

Kemp's two-run, fourth-inning homer was followed up by a two-run blast from Luis Cruz, and A.J. Ellis added a third two-run home run to the Dodgers' tally in the sixth inning. Andrew Brown provided the Rockies' only offense on a solo shot in the fourth inning.

The Dodgers face a difficult task in getting to the postseason; they'll have to get by the Giants in their final series of the season starting tomorrow night. Aaron Harang is set to lock horns with Matt Cain.
