Braves, Diamondbacks talking Justin Upton trade

Stay connected for news and updates

The Arizona Diamondbacks have resumed trade talks with the Atlanta Braves involving outfielder Justin Upton, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.

The Braves are said to "be in hard on this," according to Olney. He considers them the likely frontrunner if the Diamondbacks ultimately decide to trade Upton.

The Braves have been one of the teams most tied to Upton this offseason. They've already added Justin's brother, B.J. Upton, but they continue to be in the market for outfielders.

Beyond the Braves, the Texas Rangers have also been heavily connected to Upton. Texas has missed out on several other high-profile players, including Josh Hamilton, Zack Greinke, Josh Johnson and James Shields, and their offense could use a boost after the losses of Hamilton and Mike Napoli.

Upton has been in the news recently, with the Mariners even reaching an agreement with Arizona for the right fielder. Upton vetoed the trade, as Seattle was on his short no-trade list.

Another team mentioned in the chase for Upton is the Mets, but they do not seem a likely destination for Upton because they appear to be in a rebuilding period.

The Diamondbacks currently have an excess of outfielders and have been actively shopping both Upton and Jason Kubel.
