Curt Schilling comes out ... with opinion about gay players

Stay connected for news and updates

Well, this seemed to come out of nowhere:

Bravo, sir. Nothing like a hot wet injection of Truth to liven up an otherwise sleepy Friday afternoon in February.

I do wish that Schilling had made similar comments while still actually playing baseball; his sentiments might have carried more weight then. In the NFL, active players Chris Kluwe and Brendon Ayanbadejo have been quite effusive in their support for same-sex marriage. But things have changed a lot, just in the few years since Schilling retired. You can't really hold it against a guy for not being the first over the barricades.

What's more, Schilling does not support same-sex marriage; he considers it a sin. But he also doesn't come out against it, saying instead it's a matter for the individual states to decide. I guess we'll have to wait for his opinion on how the U.S. Supreme Court should decide the issue, when it comes up.

Man, it'll be a good day when the first baseball player comes out. And baseball should be first.
