The Next Guys Who Won't Pitch in the Major Leagues

Okay, so this will probably be the first "reality" series I'll watch all the way through. Which is kind of a big deal, since to this point my entire reality-television experience consists of one episode of Fear Factor, eight minutes of Storage Wars, and a few episodes of a show where guys in overalls repaired World War II tanks.

This is all about throwing knuckleballs, though. Quarterbacks throwing knuckleballs ...

I will note that Doug Flutie isn't just bidding to become a knuckleball pitcher in the major leagues; at 50, he's trying to become the second-oldest pitcher in major-league history (in 1965, Satchel Paige pitched three innings for the Kansas City A's when he was 58).

Which is to say that Flutie's not really bidding to do anything except make a few bucks on a silly TV show, which might instead be titled I'm a Football Player ... Get Me Off This Pitcher's Mound!

Granted, Josh Booty did play professional baseball, and even reached the majors as a third baseman (not on merit, but still). This show would make a lot more sense to me if Wakefield were tutoring some actual baseball pitchers with actual chances to get signed by actual baseball teams. This thing is just a rank stunt.

Which, again, doesn't mean I won't watch.
