Rutgers lost its first game of the season today, falling to Kent State at home.

Rutgers is unbeaten no more. The No. 15 Scarlet Knights fell today to the unranked Kent State Golden Flashers, 35-23.

Crucial to the Kent State victory was the team's defense, which recovered a fumble and intercepted Rutgers' Gary Nova six times. They also limited the Rutgers rushing attack to just 96 yards and forced the Scarlet Knights to the air by establishing an early lead on offense.

Kent State's backfield was also an instrumental part of the team's success, with halfbacks Trayion Durham and Dri Archer combining for 210 yards and two touchdowns. Archer also led the team in receiving yards with 36.

With the loss, Rutgers falls to 7-1 on the year, but remains unbeaten in the Big East at 4-0. Kent State improves to 7-1 (4-0, MAC).

Box Score Hero: Kent State defensive end Mark Fackler was a force on defense, notching two interceptions on the day, one of which was returned for 25 yards and a touchdown.

Rankings Ramifications: Rutgers is certainly going to drop significantly from its No. 15 ranking, while Kent State, having improved to 7-1 with the win, could receive enough votes to creep into the top 25.

But Did They Cover? Rutgers was a 13-point favorite going into this game. This was an upset for Kent State.

Next Week's Schedule: Next week, Kent State will host Akron and Rutgers will have a bye before a Nov. 10 date against Army.

The Seminoles cruised to victory over the Blue Devils in Doak Campbell Stadium.

The No. 12 Florida State Seminoles made it look easy against the Duke Blue Devils today, cruising to a 48-7 victory in Doak Campbell Stadium on a balanced offensive attack and a stout defensive performance.

Florida State's EJ Manuel completed just half of his 16 pass attempts, but was able to earn 282 passing yards and a pair of scores doing so. His top targets were Rodney Smith and Kelvin Benjamin, who combined for 189 yards and a score on six catches.

Duke struggled against the Florida State defense, amassing just 232 total yards of offense on the day. Their lone touchdown came on a Jela Duncan three yard rush in the second quarter. Duke had many opportunities to score, opportunistically recovering four Florida State fumbles, but had a tough go capitalizing off of Seminole mistakes.

With the win, Florida State improves to 8-1 (5-1, ACC) on the season.

Box Score Hero: Florida State halfback Devonta Freeman was intstrumental in the Seminoles' success today, rushing for 104 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries.

Rankings Ramifications: Florida State is could get a bit of a bump in the polls with this win over a bowl-eligible Duke Blue Devils team.

But Did They Cover? Duke did not cover the 27 point spread.

Next Week's Schedule: On November 3, Duke will host Clemson. Florida State will have a bye in prepration for their November 9 game against Virginia Tech.

The BYU Cougars bettered the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets with a solid rushing game.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets fell to the BYU Cougars, 41-17, in Atlanta's Bobby Dodd Stadium on Saturday

The Yellow Jackets struggled to generate any offense, moving the ball for just 157 yards on the day with no offensive touchdowns. Georgia Tech also failed to convert a single third down on the afternoon. Special teams play and an opportunistic defense kept it closer early, but BYU was able to pull away in the second half thanks largely to the offensive performance by halfback Jamaal Williams, who accounted for four total touchdowns for the Cougars.

On the loss, Georgia Tech falls to 3-5 on the year. With the win, BYU is one game closer to bowl eligibility at 5-4.

Box Score Hero: BYU's Jamaal Williams was a major factor in the Cougars success, scoring three touchdowns rushing and one receiving. He totalled 161 all-purpose yards during the game.

Rankings Ramifications: Neither BYU nor Georgia Tech was ranked heading into this week, and BYU's win is not likely to earn the Cougars (5-4, 0-1) any consideration for rankings.

But Did They Cover? Georgia Tech, as 2.5-point favorites, did not beat the spread.

Next Week's Schedule: Georgia Tech will travel to face the Maryland Terrapins and BYU has a bye before a Nov. 10 home date against Idaho.

Concerned about their ability to swap defenders against an up-tempo offense, the Jets want the NFL to ensure that proper substitution rules are enforced today.

The New York Jets have contacted the NFL regarding the proper enforcement of the league's substitution rules during Sunday's game between the Jets and the New England Patriots, ESPN is reporting.

Per NFL rules, if an offense makes a substitution between plays, the defense is allowed to make a substitution as well. After reviewing film from the Patriots' 31-21 win over the Denver Broncos, the Jets coaching staff concluded that the rule was not regularly enforced during that game, which ultimately hurt Denver's chances at a victory.

Per a member of the Jets' coaching staff, "we have already talked to the league office and [New York head coach] Rex [Ryan] will be in the ref's ear about this all game." Additionally, the Jets staff will be certain to reinforce their position on the league's substitution rules before the game begins, when they are scheduled to meet with the game's officials.

The no-huddle offense that New England often runs, and the rules regarding defensive substitution, have gained significant attention leading up to this game, with the Jets publicly commenting on the issue on multiple occasions. Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine said that if these rule are not enforced that the game could become "chaos", and linebacker Calvin Pace even told ESPN that he felt the no-huddle is "borderline illegal."

Sunday's game between the New York Jets and New England Patriots will begin at 4:25 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on CBS.

It went down to the wire, but in the end the No. 16 Louisville Cardinals won to stay unbeaten on the year.

A USF Hail Mary was picked off as time expired, putting an end to a South Florida comeback and sealing a 27-25 victory for the Louisville Cardinals over the South Florida Bulls on Saturday.

On the heels of a pair of rushing touchdowns during the second quarter, Louisville established a 14-3 lead at the half. The second half, though, was won by the Bulls, who came on strong in the third and fourth quarters to narrow the score and eventually take the lead. After leading several successful drives early in the fourth quarter, Bulls quarterback B.J. Daniels completed a 12-yard pass to Andre Davis, giving USF a 25-21 lead with just over three minutes remaining in the game.

Louisville, though, would not go so easily, as Teddy Bridgewater led a successful drive immediately thereafter, completing an 11-yard touchdown pass to Eli Rogers with 1:35 remaining to seal the Cardinals' victory.

With the win, Louisville improves to 7-0 on the year.

Box Score Hero: Teddy Bridgewater was quite efficient for the Cardinals. The sophomore quarterback out of Miami completed 21 of 25 passes for 256 yards and two scores. He also led the Louisville rushing attack with 74 yards on 10 carries.

Rankings Ramifications: Heading into the weekend, Louisville was ranked No. 16, a ranking which can only improve with a win over a conference foe.

But Did They Cover? Louisville were six-point favorites in this game, so USF did cover the spread.

Next Week's Schedule: South Florida will host the Syracuse Orange at 7:00 p.m. ET, and Louisville will host the Cincinnati Bearcats at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.

During the third quarter of last week's 24-17 Atlanta victory over Washington, Griffin left the game after taking a big hit to his head on a sack by Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon. After the game, Washington head coach Mike Shanahan revealed that Griffin was diagnosed with a mild concussion, and did not give a timetable for Griffin's recovery.

Even though Griffin did not report any concussion symptoms as early as Monday, RGIII was held out of Redskins practice until Wednesday of this week. During practice, he was not subject to contact and was continuously re-evaluated for concussion symptoms.

RGIII was named Rookie of the Month for September. He has eight total touchdowns on the season, four each through the air and on the ground.

Through heavy rain and lightning, the Alabama Crimson Tide cruised against the Missouri Tigers at Faurot Field. Alabama had six rushing touchdowns in the victory.

In a game marked by torrential downpour and a lightning delay midway through the second quarter, the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide overcame the elements to beat the Missouri Tigers, 42-10.

Alabama put up more than 500 yards of total offense, with 351 yards and all six of the Crimson Tide's touchdowns coming on the ground. Missouri, on the other hand, struggled significantly to establish any offense whatsoever and amassed just 152 yards total on the afternoon.

The game ended on a chilling note, as Mizzou tight end Eric Waters was carted off of the field with an apparent head or neck injury sustained after being tackled out of bounds with about a minute left to play. The game was allowed to resume, during which the clock was run out.

Box Score Hero: Alabama's Eddie Lacy was absolutely unstoppable today. The halfback rushed for 176 yards and three touchdowns on just 18 attempts.

Rankings Ramifications: The Tide is not going anywhere in the rankings. They will easily hold on to their No. 1 overall spot.

But Did They Cover? Alabama was favored by 21 heading into this game, so they did cover the spread.

Next Week's Schedule: Next week, Alabama will travel to Tennessee to face the rival Volunteers while Missouri has a bye before hosting Kentucky on Oct. 27.

Waters, a junior out of Mansfield, Texas, was tackled out of bounds after a reception before landing awkwardly on his back, causing his head to bounce off of the turf at Faurot Field. For several minutes, he laid on the sidelines, immobile, as team trainers and doctors attended to him.

As Waters was being given medical attention, the game was allowed to resume. Alabama regained possession of the ball and took a knee to wind out the clock. Upon the contests' conclusion, Waters was able to be placed on a stretcher and removed from the field.

The nature or extent of his injuries are not yet known.
